Repair techniques, Subject: Functional testing and troubleshooting on hearing systems
On the first practice day, the trainees will get an introduction to repair techniques. This includes troubleshooting on a closed hearing system as well as the definition of a plan of procedure, a repair order and a summary of all relevant basic data:

Second Day

The second practice day focuses primarily on soldering, a preparation for the further course of the industry wide training unit:
  • Work safety and protection of the environment
  • Introduction to soft-soldering
  • Soldering exercises
  • Installation of a circuit
  • Functional check of circuit
  • Check of the soldering joints
  • Production of an adapter
Otoplastic, Topic: Taking of an earmold and production of a molding blank
First Day

The first practice day is devoted to a freshening up of basic knowledge regarding earmolds and the production of a molding blank:
  • Accident prevention and protection of the environment
  • Otoscopy
  • Earmolds
  • Work on the earmolds
  • Production of a negative
  • Making of molding blank
Otoplastic, Topic: Elaboration
Second Day

On the second practice day, apprentices will work on the finishing touches of the production of otoplastic molds:
  • Shell
  • Earmold with tubing
  • SE open

Audiometry, Topic: Wireless signal transmission and CROS provision systems
One day in class

Counselling on wireless signal transmission and infrared systems as additional components of hearing systems in order to improve the language comprehension in case of background noise:
  • Set-up and functional principles of the various installations
  • Pros and Cons
  • Installation, calibrating and testing of the installations
Audiometry, Topic: Masking/Cross hearing and other variations of pure tone audiometry
One day in class

By using varied audiometers (additional devices) masking/cross hearing can be practised in realistic conditions. The pure tone variations can be tested and assessed in self-experiments:
  • Hearing thresholds without masking
  • Cross hearing
  • Masking in pure tone audiometry
  • Language audiometry
  • Exercises additional tests
Fitting of hearing systems, Topic: Pre-selection and pre-adjustment of hearing systems with measuring box and in situ installation
A day in class

On this day various activities of a hearing-aid acoustician are brought together and structured. Case studies lead to the fitting of entire hearing systems, using the apprentices’ otoplastics, as the hearing systems are fitted reciprocally by means of the in situ installation:
  • Evaluation of the case
  • Critical review of the hearing-system dispensed, definition of basic criteria
  • Use of data bases
  • Use of measuring box and in situ installation
Fitting of hearing-systems Topic: Pre-adjustment of hearing systems with loudness scaling
One day in class

Based on the work of the first day, multi channel hearing systems are pre-adjusted with loudness scaling and by means and optimized by means of in situ measuring in self-experiments. Different scaling techniques are tested and evaluated:
  • Determination of hearing characteristics via loudness scaling
  • Defining of target data based on the loudness scaling
  • Optimization of pre-adjusted hearing systems
